OLED vs IPS vs VA: Which Display Panel Is Best?
Every screen uses one of a few panel technologies, and each has a personality. Here is how to match the panel to what you do.
The three main panel types
IPS panels offer accurate colour and wide viewing angles, making them the safe all-rounder for work and general use. VA panels trade some viewing angle for much deeper contrast and blacks, which suits movies and immersive gaming. OLED lights each pixel individually, delivering perfect blacks, instant response and dazzling contrast.
None is universally 'best' — each is a set of trade-offs tuned to different priorities.

Choosing by how you use it
For colour-critical work like photo and video editing, a good IPS or OLED panel with strong colour coverage is ideal. For gaming and film, OLED's contrast and speed are hard to beat, with VA a more affordable route to inky blacks.
For all-day office and browsing, a bright IPS panel is comfortable, cheap and worry-free.
The OLED caveat
OLED's one weakness is burn-in: static elements shown for very long periods can leave faint permanent marks. Modern panels mitigate this well, and for mixed use it is rarely a problem, but for displaying a fixed dashboard all day an IPS is the safer pick.
OLED also tends to cost more, though prices keep falling as the technology matures.
The bottom line
Pick IPS for dependable all-round accuracy, VA for cheap contrast, and OLED for the best gaming and movie experience money can buy — mindful of its price and the small burn-in risk with static content.
